Natural Gas Exploration and Development was first published in 1978, CN51-1159/TE, ISSN 1673-3177. It is one of the earliest professional journals in China focused on natural gas exploration and development. It is also one of the most important scientific and technological authority journals in the field.

Over the 40 years of history, the journal has closely aligned with the strategic development goals of China’s oil and gas industry. It focuses on analyzing and reporting the key, challenging, and emerging issues in the upstream sector of the oil and gas industry. Adhering to the editorial policy of inclusiveness and diversity, the journal comprehensively covers new theories, methods, technologies, and processes in the field of oil and gas exploration and development in China. It is a comprehensive scientific and technological publication with a strong academic, technical, practical, and cutting-edge focus.

Starting in 2024, the frequency of Natural Gas Exploration and Development was changed to bimonthly, A4 sized, issued at the end of every odd numbered month. The journal is distributed both domestically and internationally, priced at RMB 20 yuan per issue (including postage), and RMB 120 yuan per year (6 issues). Subscriptions are welcome from relevant institute and individuals.
