Natural Gas Exploration and Development was first published in 1978, governed by PetroChina Southwest Oil & Gasfield Company, sponsored by Exploration and Development Research Institute of PetroChina Southwest Oil & Gasfield Company. Approved by the National Press and Publication Administration, it is a scientific and technological journal that comprehensively reports theories, technologies, and methods related to natural gas exploration and development, ISSN 1673–3177; CN 51–1159/TE. From 1978 to 2023, it was published quarterly at the end of each quarter for 46 years. Upon approval, starting in 2024, the frequency changed to bimonthly, issued at the end of every even-numbered month.

 

Natural Gas Exploration and Development is indexed by full-text in Key Magazine of China Technology, the Chinese Core Journals (Selection) Database, Wanfang Data - Digital Journals Network, and the Chinese Academic Journals Network Publishing Database.

 

The journal embraces inclusivity and diversity while adhering to national laws and regulations. It disseminates scientific information, fosters academic research, promotes both domestic and international exchanges, and supports technological advancements in industry. By focusing on the exploration and development of petroleum, natural gas, and new energy, it provides valuable resources for researchers, broadens scientific horizons, and prioritizes publishing innovative and impactful research. The journal prioritizes the publication of innovative and high-quality achievements in oil and gas research, production, and management. It also encourages the publication of academic papers that present differing viewpoints in research, production, and management, contributing to the advancement of China’s petroleum and natural gas industry.

 

The journal currently features regular columns on Resource Exploration, Oil and Gas Field Development, and New Energy Technologies, with an Academic Forum for publishing articles on academic debates and research insights. The journal’s circulation is 1,700 copies per issue, with a total annual circulation of 6,800 copies. It is widely distributed across the national petroleum and natural gas system, geological exploration system, and various libraries of petroleum, natural gas, and geological exploration institutions, including the Beijing Library, Shanghai Library, and libraries of petroleum-majored universities nationwide.
